WHEREAS, America’s National Teenager was founded in 1971 for the purpose of recognizing young women of intellect and leadership. Participation in Nebraska’s National Teenager allows outstanding teens from across the state to be recognized for their commitment to excellence in learning and character, thus rewarding their accomplishments with college tuition scholarships; and
WHEREAS, National Teenager is a true scholarship program as awards are based on scholastic achievement, leadership, school , community involvement and most importantly individuality; and
WHEREAS, Business owners, community leaders and family members who support the dreams of young women return dividends to their communities, state and nation; and
WHEREAS, The four tiered system crowns a Miss Nebraska Preteen (9-12), Miss Nebraska Junior Teenager (13-15), a Nebraska National Teenager (16-18) and a ANTSO Nebraska Miss (19-25). Runner ups in each of the age divisions have the opportunity to become Miss Nebraska Sweetheart and also represent the state; and
WHEREAS, The representatives for Nebraska National Teenager Scholarship Program will represent the State of Nebraska in Nashville, TN in July 2009 to compete for the National Title; and
WHEREAS, The young women selected as representatives are aware of the importance of education and realize the impact they will have on the future of Nebraska.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Dave Heineman, Governor of the State of Nebraska, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM the 20 of January, 2010, as
NEBRASKA NATIONAL TEENAGER SCHOLARSHIP
